The first phase of the Hilton Head Island Airport Terminal began in 2019. This was a collaborative effort between Edison Foard and The Wilson Group and was the beginning of a 30.9 million, two-year project funded by the FAA, SC Aeronautics Grants, State Funds, and airport revenue.
The project’s scope was extensive and included a cutting-edge TSA screening checkpoint, modernized boarding gate areas, terminal access upgrades, new boarding bridges, and overall improved pedestrian circulation.
At the beginning of the project, the design team was met with a serious challenge: post-COVID-19 economic inflation, which threatened several aspects of construction. However, our project design team was able to successfully re-bid and reorganize the effort.
This project was worth every challenge that our team overcame. It injected considerable economic growth into the local community and enhanced the passenger experience. We were proud to be able to contribute to Hilton Head Island Airport’s evolution.
